Taipei Sonnet

My farthest friends they’ll deliberately settle in this earthquake town.
Now-Now here for the cement hard sway, the runaway’s responsibility
But the ‘ascared’ me say “I’ve packed my bags and she-Indian gown
But not for the true knowing of half-commie waters or East China sea”

A meagre constellation of distance: Canada right here in Taiwan.
But they’ll Mandarin speak for duck-neck treats or rainwater soup,
I well envy their effort yet I can’t properly trace so cogent a plan,
For it’s the vague air I seek and it’s far below these Pinyin groups.

Two friends might easily dance to TV commercials in this Tiger hair bar,
While I sweat ugly with coy; feeling vain and failing near coquettish scenes.
Pals are able; still, the satisfaction of a lightshow win shines rarely too far.
The sacrifices for satiety are lies; one obtains through the falsest of means.

I’m truly confounded by peers; the solutions and qualities they maintain
I contrive and I consider what future, while all my lost certainties remain.

Beetle-Nut Fisherman

Morning Market Near Our Place: This guy's a beetle-nut chewer, you can see the red juices slipping outta his mout. There's a stain on his arm, I think it's probably fish blood but it could be beetle-nut juice. He was an intense guy, II was afraid of him. Posted by Hello

7 Bum Pictures

Pics taken in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the Summer of 2004

One might say I have a pretty crass view on the bums; I don't hate them or anything but I don't really pity them either; usually I genuinely enjoy them . They're a funny, sincere and capricious bunch. I guess I do feel a bit sad when I take the time to realize how fucked over they are by Reservation life and by the harmful hand-outs given to them by the Government.

The guy that moans and howls. Posted by Hello

This guy is deaf or hard-of-hearing, I’m not sure which. He howls like a mad-man in this really long incredible moan. It sounds like he’s in agony, but really I just think he’s out of his mind drunk. I went down and took some pics of him. Then I felt bad and brought him some carrots and a few apples---you know, cuz ever since I was lil I’ve always liked to help strays--- But really, what should I do for him? Maybe ask him up to the apartment where I could give him a bar of soap and a hot shower, wash him up and make him into a fine City of Edmonton employee? He would eat the soap and shit everywhere. That’s the truth most people don't like to talk about.

So yeah, the story here is that I was coming home from work at 6am and found this dude on a warm-air vent. There are plenty of shelters for these guys but they realize shelters mean a night of sobriety so they’re compelled to partake of the drink and drugs and all the shit that comes with it--- in this case, it’s a cool Alberta dawn huddled up on a vent.

the social message here was not my idea--- at all! But it seems to be there so I won't wish it away. Posted by Hello

These guys are most likely Cree indians. It sounds like a generalization but out of the many aboriginal bums about most of them claimed to be Cree. The picture is on location at "Pony's Point". It's a very regular hangout spot, a place to drink and tell story's and fight and say "Fuuuck YOUU!". I like to go there sometimes when I'm really drunk and hang out with them; show them that I'm an alright fella. I like to talk like them and imitate them. It usually works. When I'm drinking with them--I mean like wasted and talking crazy talk, the distinction that's present during more regular hours rightly disappears.  Posted by Hello

Don, the self-proclaimed, "toughest guy in town."

From my window in Edmonton. Everbody's front lawn. Lots of screwin on that lawn. And shittin and spittin'. Posted by Hello

Taiwan Breakfast

This is kinda the Asian equivalent of a McDonald's breakfast. I order the cheese Dan Bing and Iced Coffee. The Dan Bing is like a really thin green-onion cake but it has some scrambled egg and (optional) cheese in it (you can add ham or bacon if you like). The sauce is a mildly sweet fishy or oyster type sauce.I usually get the hot sauce as well. I like it--the TASTSTSTE ...

It's pretty cheap too:
40.00 TWD
Taiwan New Dollars

1.54249 CAD
